Basque trade union centre LAB condemns military aggression on Venezuela

The United States has launched a military attack against the territory and population of Venezuela in civilian and military locations in the city of Caracas, capital of the Republic, and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.

LAB Sindikatua wishes to express its strongest condemnation and reproval of the military attack carried out against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This latest episode of aggression constitutes a serious violation of international law and a direct attack on the sovereignty of a nation that has the right to freely decide its present and future without any external interference.

We are facing an act of aggression that constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, particularly Articles 1 and 2, which establish respect for sovereignty, the legal equality among states, and the prohibition of the use of force. The United States’ attack on Venezuela threatens international peace and stability, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, and puts the lives of millions of people at serious risk.

Military aggression, threats and destabilisation policies driven by imperialist interests only serve to exacerbate the suffering of peoples and increase international instability. History shows that military intervention is never a solution, but rather a tool of domination serving economic and geopolitical interests that are alien to the real needs of the population.

From LAB, we reaffirm our commitment to the sovereignty of peoples, the right to self-determination and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. We reject any form of imperialism, colonialism or interference that seeks to impose political, economic or social models by force.

We express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and with all those nations suffering similar aggressions. We call on the international community, trade union and social movements, and democratic forces to mobilise in defence of peace, sovereignty and social justice.

The peoples of the world have the right to live without threats, blockades or wars.

No to war!

Up the peoples!
